Christmas Food and Wine Pairing with Sea Change Wine

Posted by Erin McCall on 23rd Nov 2022

In preparation for the incoming festive period, ClickNDrink spoke to Sea Change Wine about their tips on the ultimate Christmas food and wine pairings and how to pair some of our favourite Christmas foods with items from their range.

The big day is fast approaching and alongside getting the tree up, buying presents and decorating the house, thoughts are no doubt turning to the food and wine you’ll be serving over the festive period.

Although wine pairing can seem a little daunting, it’s essentially about finding the perfect partner for a dish – get the right combination of food and wine and you’ll make the flavours of each really sing!

Breakfast Fizz

For Christmas Day itself, a glass of fizz at breakfast is the best way to start the celebrations. Add the elegance and summer berry fruits of a rosé - our Prosecco Rosé is truly special!

Begin the Evening with...

Red wines can be a bit heavy at the start of an evening, but rosé is a great option proving it’s not just a summer wine. Our Provence Rosé is hugely versatile and can stand up to big flavours. Why not give your table that extra wow factor with our Sea Change Provence Rosé Magnum? This is a touch of true decadence and is guaranteed to impress.

Starters

Looking to wow guests with a spectacular selection of hors d’oeuvres? If you’re serving seafood, cured meats or sushi, Sea Change Prosecco is the one to pair. Its soft bubbles and gentle spritz work perfectly for small bites such as prosciutto, salami, and olives and it’s the classic pairing for smoked salmon. We also have our award-winning 0% alcohol version, Sea Change Free, available for a more inclusive banquet.

For spicy snacks, the structure and balanced acidity of Sea Change Riesling pairs brilliantly offering a beautiful contrast. It's a crowd pleaser, and sure to impress with a wide variety of dishes.

Christmas Dinner Wine

When it comes to Christmas dinner, a traditional turkey is fairly mild in flavour, so make sure the wine you choose doesn’t overwhelm it. For this reason, Sea Change Sauvignon Blanc is hard to beat. Refreshing, vibrant and zesty, this is a classic Sauvignon in an easy drinking style.

If you’ve got beef on the menu, it’s red wine all the way. Treat yourself to the latest addition to our range, the fantastic, full-bodied Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon. It features a lingering fruity finish, with dark berry and chocolate aromas and a ripe plum core.

Going Meat-Free?

For those enjoying a meat-free Christmas, it’s just as important to find the perfect wine match to complement those flavour-filled favourites. A cranberry and lentil bake is never a miss - and pairing this hearty dish with our full-bodied Merlot is sure to bring the warm festive feeling to a cold winter day.

Bring in the New Year with Fizz!

To see in New Year, it simply MUST be sparkling – whether that’s our Prosecco, Prosecco Rosé or Free, our eco-conscious wine alternative for those who choose to avoid alcohol but don’t want to miss out on that celebratory glass of bubbles.

Every bottle of Sea Change helps fund ocean conservation projects across the globe and our minimal packaging reduces waste and environmental impact. We have already raised over €300,000 to protect our oceans and marine life.
