Planning your Platinum Jubilee Party: From Drinks to Decor

The Ultimate Guide to Planning your Platinum Jubilee Party: From Drinks to Décor

platinum jubilee party planning top tips

Party hats at the ready, the big four-day weekend is so close we can almost smell it! Thousands of street parties and community events are expected all around the UK to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and what better event to host your own gathering or get-together?!

But whether you’re the host with the most and in charge of the street bash or simply planning to celebrate in style with a Platinum Jubilee garden party and nibbles, we’ve compiled the ultimate guide to ensure your Platinum Jubilee celebrations go without a hitch.

Marking Her Majesty’s 70 years on the throne, the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee takes place from Thursday 2nd June to Sunday 5th June, where up to 10 million of us are expected to organise or attend parties in her honour.

Party Plan Ahead

If you want to organise your own street party, it’s actually quite a simple process. Street parties, and therefore road closures, are legal across any days spanning from 2nd to the 5th June. All you need to do is fill out the road closure request form on your local council’s website and register your street party on the official Queen’s Jubilee website.

You won’t need a risk assessment or any specific license in order to consume alcohol or play music but of course, if you wanted to sell alcohol or apply for loud music to be played (such as a concert), you’ll need to also apply for a Temporary Events Notice, which again can be done from the local council.

Additionally, if you host your Platinum Jubilee party on private land such as your driveway or garden, you won’t need to apply via the council.

Next, don’t forget to tell your street about it! Create some cards, invites, RSVP’s and pop them through doors – or better yet, why not start a street WhatsApp group where you can let them know and delegate tasks to those wanting to be involved?

Try the NextDoor app; it’s kind of like Facebook but for local communities, simply register for the app and pop your notices on there – anyone else on the street or in the neighbourhood who has the app will get a notification on their phone.

Décor Fit for a Queen

Well, no Platinum Jubilee party is complete without a rumble of royal décor! Think red, white and blue and all things Union Jack-inspired. Be sure to arrange a number of picnic tables, paper plates, coloured glassware or paper cups (to avoid potential breakages) and don’t forget some tablecloths and/or runners to really give the wow factor.

If red, white and blue isn’t your thing, the official colours of the Jubilee are purple and platinum (but white will do) so instead opt for these more muted shades within your colour scheme.

Bunting. Nothing says British street party quite like it. Super affordable but also easy to make. Why not get the kids involved and get the children involved in the festivities by decorating triangles of cloth or card? Then simply pull them through a string or rope and hang them on fences around the street.

Finally, be sure to prep for the great British weather. We all know we’re partial to a downpour or two – so ensure you’ve got a Plan B so your street party doesn’t end up a wash-out.

As a back-up plan, gazebos are great for covering tables and ensuring your guests are dry, or even protected from the sun, but if you’ve got garages, a large dining room or a conservatory to move the party into should you encounter a spot of torrential rain, then do so and ensure these areas are ready for an influx of guests.

A Royal Knees-Up!

Don’t forget the food and drink! Ask your guests for ideas on plates or nibbles they’ll bring – and be sure to note down who’s bringing what, so you’ve not got a million and one sausage rolls on the table on the day. Or, suggest a list and have your guests each pick items off the list that they’ll be responsible for.

Go for quintessentially British food and drinks – so think finger foods like sandwiches (inclusive of coronation chicken filler, no doubt?!), a barbecue on the go and a good old Victoria sponge or British trifle for dessert along with tea and biscuits.

For drinks, well, it’s just got to be gin, Pimms and prosecco hasn’t it?

How about a Tanqueray London Dry Gin Party Pack? Perfect for your Jubilee Jamboree, the pack includes a bottle of 70cl Tanqueray, a branded glass, cushion and apron. At only £21.99 it’s an absolute steal!

Or go the Pimms Sundowner Party Pack. Featuring a bottle of the newly released Pimms Sundowner, a fruity twist on the traditional Pimms, the pack also includes a Pimms jug, branded glass and cushion – all for £15.99!

Alternatively, pick up three bottles of the mouth-watering Serenello Prosecco along with ‘Save the Queen’ board game in our Prosecco Party Pack – for only £50! Featuring three 75cl bottles, it’s a perfect addition to the picnic table – and includes a grown-up drinking board game for later in the evening. Think snakes and ladders meets ring of fire!

Finally, pick up a bottle of the stunning Agnes Arber Original London Dry Gin, a case of 24 Marlish English Tonic Waters and the ‘Save the Queen’ drinking game – all for £65 in the Jubilee Gin Party Pack.

And Finally…

Don’t forget to bring some entertainment to the party, with some board games to keep the kids entertained.

Outdoor games like giant Jenga are great or why not create your own? Pin the tail on the Corgi, a coconut shy, a tin can alley, hook a duck in a small inflatable swimming pool, or even turn the party into a fancy dress contest? The possibilities are endless.

Finally, it’s time to sit back and enjoy your Jubilee Jamboree!
